Outdoor Classroom
In March this year work started on our latest project, an "Outdoor Classroom." This decked, covered area will be used for viewing sporting events, outdoor classroom activities and as a general wheelchair accessible area for the pupils and staff at Medina House School to get out of the classroom and spend more time outside enjoying the weather.
Please click on the links below to follow the build of the new "Outdoor Classroom."

Emergency Services Display
On the 7th February 2011 the school was fortunate enough to have the Newport Constabulary supply a couple of it's vehicles to support the classes studying the topic of "Transport" this term. We were also lucky enough to be supplied with one of the local hospitals' Ambulances. The pupils' at school had an excellent rewarding time speaking to the Policeman and the Ambulance Driver who explained their daily duties. The pupils' spent time in the back of the ambulance, and spent some time "Banged- Up " in the back of the Police van- with a promise that they would never visit the back of a Police Van again!!
Please find below a selection of pics from the day:

Medina House Schools' Garden, Bird Box Camera and additional Surveillance Cameras
As you may be aware last year my class created a garden on a piece of waste ground for all the children to use. At the time our Chair of Governors, who was also my partner Mark Lee, put in many hours helping to dig flower beds, move soil and lay turf in his spare time. Since Mark’s death in September we have been raising money for a wildlife camera, which Mark and I had started to do just before he died, by cycling around the Island. We have had some fantastic support especially from Chale Horticultural Society giving £300, and the Seaview Hotel who had a quiz night in memory of Mark raising £800. This enabled us to buy 3 cameras. Two are situated at either end of the garden and give a view of what happens during the night when animals visit. The other one is in a bird box, some blue tits have made a nest and now we have 5 eggs in it! To view the nest camera follow the links below.
Many thanks to those of you who sponsored Mark and myself to help make this all possible!!!!

How to access the Bird Box and Garden Cameras
The bird box is setup so footage inside the box can be viewed on a PC/ Laptop or even a mobile phone
on and off school premises through a web address. Please follow the steps below to be able to
monitor the activities within the bird box!!
1. Access any web-page on the internet.
2. Left-click on the address bar at the top of the page (where the address of the website goes). Doing
this will highlight the existing address in blue.
3. Delete the existing address (press Delete or Del) and type following, or just click the link below:
http://cctv.medinahouse.iow.sch.uk:5001
4. If the web address is typed in correctly, you will see a login screen with a username and a password
box. Ignore the password, but the username is: birdcamuser.
5. After you have logged onto the Bird Cam using the birdcamuser username, the screen seems to
crash. This is due to the camera software requiring an add-on to work correctly. The add-on only
needs to be applied once per computer to access the birdcam footage.
The add-on is applied by following the next steps:
a. When the login page crashes, a yellow/Orange bar at the top of the screen still remains. Left-click
this bar
b. Click “Install this Add-on”. Another box will appear
c. Click Install
One more tip for you:
You are able to capture a picture of the image on the Bird Camera Display if you right-click the image
and select “Save current picture as”. Select where you would like to save the picture to, and click “Save”
Happy Viewing!!- Watch this Space

How to use Computers and the Internet- SAFELY
Whether doing research for school projects and homework, chatting with friends or playing games, your child is likely to spend ever more time on the computer as they get older. While they may understand computer programs, surfing the internet, chat rooms and multi-player games better than you do, they still need your guidance.
On the links page I have recently added a number of links to websites with advice on "E-Safety", please find a description of each link below:
www.childnet.com - An excellent website with resources to keep your child safe on the internet.
Make sure you look at the "Know it all" resources.
www.ceop.gov.uk - Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre website.
www.thinkuknow.co.uk - The CEOP Centre’s Online Safety Centre providing advice and tips for children
and adults of all ages. Contains excellent resources and child-
based video clips demonstrating how to use ICT safely.
www.kidsmart.org.uk - Interactive website for any child and anyone with children or working with
children to learn more about the technologies that are used today at school
and in the home.
